Advancing Public Policy Education in India

Association for Public Policy Education (APPE) is meant for promoting public policy education in India. The APPE is registered as a society under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act, 2012 on 30 January 2021.

The idea to form such as association was first discussed in 2019. A group of academics and public policy professionals came together on 29 July 2019 at the campus of O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat at the invitation of Prof. R Sudarshan (Dean of the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy(JSGP) for a workshop on ‘Teaching Public Policy and Economics.’

A pioneering public policy institution in India -JSGP proposed the idea of an association for the development of the public policy discipline and practice by encouraging collaboration and partnerships between public policy scholars, and practitioners including the institutions involved in teaching, training, and research in public policy. The objective is to advance and strengthen the discipline and practice of public policy in India.

The aims and objectives of the Association are as follows

To advance and strengthen the discipline and practice of public policy in India by leveraging the strength of the public policy schools and institutions in India;
To organize an annual public policy conference;
To publish a bi-annual journal of public policy, occasional papers, newsletters and books;
To promote the academic exchange of students and faculty between the institutions of public policy in India and abroad;
To foster experiential learning for students of public policy by facilitating internships, fellowships, research projects for students;
To stimulate participation in the refining of public policy theory and practice in India, as well as in the activities of the Association of Public Policy Education (APPE)
To support activities that foster Public Policy aspects and initiatives in India and abroad.

Life Members

One time Membership Fee: 10,000 INR

A person may be admitted as a life member on payment of the prescribed fee and such person shall continue to be a member of the society for her/his life.

Ordinary Members

Annual Membership Fee: 1,000 INR (Professionals) | 500 INR (Students)

An ordinary member may be admitted on annual basis and renewed by the Governing body.

Institution Members

Annual Membership Fee: 5,000 INR INR

An institution may be admitted as a member on payment of the prescribed fee.
